The Y Chromosome

We always knew that we were special

What is a Chromosome? A Chromosome is a package of genes or sequences of DNA.

There are two types of Chromosome found in the human body X and Y: The Y Chromosome includes DNA data that carries the information for maleness. It is much smaller than the X Chromosome.

What exactly is the Y Chromosome?  -- The Y-chromosome, in the nuclear DNA of males, it is his male lineage and is unique to him, his father, paternal grandfather an so on, also male cousins that share the same male ancestor. A profile, known as a haplotype listing mutations and differences distinguishes this lineage.

Despite the smaller number of genes in the Y Chromosome; 200 compared with the 1400 or so in the X Chromosome there is information relating to the development of the testes and much else besides. Defects in the Y chromosome can cause some forms of leukaemia and a type of retinitis.

Good news for men; it has recently been discovered that the genetic information for maleness has a method of repairing itself. Many genetic scientists believed that the Y Chromosome was doomed, as unlike the X Chromosome, it has nothing to combine with when reproduction takes place.

Brain is one organ that appears to differ in the genders as a result of the exposure, both before and after birth to sex hormones. Cultural differences can not be ignored, there have been several matriarchal societies. Greek historians write about the Amazons, a race of warrior women who sacrificed a breast to improve their archery. (left)
